Taking stock, and finding gratitude

Updated: Dec 21, 2022

Friends,

As we head into the holiday season, I can't help but think of all that I am thankful for.

I think of my dear friend and colleague, Bruce McLeod, who we lost from this world far too early. When he passed away suddenly last summer, it was a real jolt – in many ways, I have come to learn, I am still grieving.

As I work through the grief and loss, it has certainly deepened my feelings of gratitude for the people around me – friends, colleagues, clients and, certainly, my family. How fortunate I am to be surrounded by these people, by people like you.

Recently, the Vision Coaching coaching roster gathered – virtually, of course, as our coaches are based across Canada and into the U.S. As we remembered Bruce and went through updates on the business, I felt blessed to know and be able to work with such incredible individuals. Highly talented coaches, yes, but also truly genuine and caring people.

Incredible clients

As coaches gave their updates, I was reminded that we would not be assembling together if it was not for our incredible clients. Everyday, we have the privilege of working with incredible individuals who are committed to elevating their game and pushing themselves out of their comfort zones. It is incredibly inspiring, and humbling, to witness these leaders being so courageous.

I’m also looking forward, after the tumult of the last few years, to welcoming my parents into our home. They will make the journey from Whitehorse, Yukon to be with us over the holidays, and I know I will cherish that time.

Sometimes it is far too easy to take our own families for granted, and sometimes I grumble about how hectic our lives can be – keeping up with the kids at times feels like a full-time job on its own. But when I stop to take a breath, I realize how truly fortunate I am to have these three amazing people in my life.

Who enriches your life?

I’m grateful for my partner in life, Mary Ellen Veale, who has been with me through the ups-and-downs of life and of growing a leadership coaching firm. It’s been amazing to have her work alongside me at Vision Coaching.

Wherever you find yourself this holiday season, my wish for you is that you find the time to reflect on what – and who – enriches your life.

I thank you for your business, your friendship, and your support. All the very best to you in 2023.

Sincerely,

Dave.
