A natural coach, Pat McLaughlin joins Vision Coaching team

Pat McLaughlin has spent much of his life around teams.

From the dressing room to the executive suite, he has been drawn to the same questions: What helps people perform at their best? How do leaders create environments where others can succeed? And what does it take for a team to achieve something meaningful together?

Those questions have shaped a career in sport, education, business and executive leadership – and ultimately led him to executive coaching.

Vision Coaching is delighted to welcome Pat to our coaching roster.

A lifelong hockey player and coach, Pat discovered early that while he loved competing, he was even more energized by helping others develop, grow and succeed.

“I found out that I love coaching even more than I did playing,” he says. “I love working with people to help them achieve their goals.”

Over the course of his career, Pat held senior business leadership roles with Hockey Canada, the Edmonton Oilers and Edge School - one of Canada’s largest sports schools.. Along the way, he built a reputation for developing leaders, strengthening organizational performance and culture and helping teams perform under pressure.

Yet despite the variety of roles, Pat sees a common thread running through all of them.

“I’ve always enjoyed helping people achieve their goals,” he says. “Whether it was teaching, coaching athletes, leading teams, driving business results or working with executives, I’ve always been drawn to helping people grow and perform at their best.”

Many people encouraged Pat over the years to pursue leadership coaching professionally. In 2025, he completed the Executive Coaching program at Royal Roads University and earned his Certified Executive Coach designation.

Today, he works primarily with CEOs, C-suite executives, senior leaders and emerging high-potential talent, helping them navigate complexity, accelerate growth and achieve meaningful results.

When it came time to align with a coaching organization, Vision stood out.

Pat had followed Vision founder Dave Veale’s leadership writing for years, often saving articles and sharing the ideas with teams and colleagues. Long before joining the roster, he had come to view Vision as one of the country’s leading coaching organizations.

“When I think about the best coaching organizations in the country, Vision is among the best of the best,” he says. “I was very fortunate to connect with Dave and Pete and the rest of the Vision team .”

Pat also brings extensive governance experience, having reported to many boards as well as serving on several local and national boards, including the Hockey Hall of Fame and the Calgary Flames Saddledome Foundation.

“I’ve always been fascinated by teams and leadership,” he says. “I enjoy working with people who want to achieve, improve and reach their potential.”
