Take a few minutes to review 12 things you can practice that will help increase your resiliency...
1. Remain hopeful and optimistic – look at what can be gained rather than lost; look at what’s working rather than what isn’t
2. Focus on your strengths and what you can build on; focus on what you have rather than what you lack; think abundance, not scarcity 3. Notice the extraordinary in the ordinary – a snowflake, the particular way the sun’s rays fall, a child’s actions … be amazed everyday
4. Think possibility – what else, what if, what’s another way of looking at this; consider choices, options, different points of view
5. Take a moment to appreciate something or someone; be grateful; pay attention to what you have going for you and your best self. 6. Do something different; shake things up; get out of the rut; try a different approach; take another path
7. Engage in a physical activity – walking, biking, swimming, dancing – anything that gets you up and moving
8. Reframe your perspective – ask yourself: “what might I be missing”; “how might someone else see this”; “what can help me see this as an opportunity rather than a problem”; “how will I feel about this a year from now”; ‘what’s most important for me to remember”; what matters most in the grand scheme of things
9. Savor “wonderful moments” each day – an email from a friend, a call from a loved one, a joke from a colleague; the sound of laughter - take time to celebrate little victories
10. Manage your energy – do more of what replenishes you and makes you feel good; choose to be happy
11. Carve out small portions of time to regroup/recharge (a walk around the block, connecting with family/friends, reading a poem, a warm bath, moments of quiet and silence, watching the sunset, a little downtime to pause and reflect)
12. Reach out to and help others – build a support system and be a support for others; demonstrate caring, kindness, empathy and compassion – nurture others to in turn nurture yourself
